Our client is a leading international import organization based in Vancouver, dedicated to providing seamless customs clearance services to exceed customer expectations. Position Overview: Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations and Compliance Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of International Trade Professionals.
The successful candidate will ensure customs releases are completed promptly, efficiently, and accurately while adhering to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: Develop and manage operational SOPs, policies, and procedures. Establish short- and long-term operational goals and objectives.
Drive a culture of continuous process improvements, primarily through technology. Serve as a leader and role model for company culture. Collaborate with software and ERP systems to ensure efficiency and develop training guides.
Support team members in a positive and constructive manner to facilitate professional growth. Motivate the team to uphold core values and create a successful and accountable environment. Monitor activity in the office to ensure operational execution aligns with expectations.
Act as the customer’s advocate in issue resolution and service enhancement. Ensure quality assurance processes are in place and provide necessary training. Distribute workload equitably while ensuring adequate coverage and support.
Audit entries to ensure compliance and efficiency. Provide after-hours support when necessary. Take accountability for team performance and own actions.
Continuously develop own skills and those of the team. Keep up-to-date with customs regulations and changes. Participate in the hiring process for new team members.
Develop and update processes, KPIs, and procedures as required. Create and deliver departmental reports, tracking KPIs. Maintain SOPs with current process and governmental requirements.
Participate in process improvement activities and customer satisfaction initiatives. Requirements: Minimum five years of experience in customs brokerage. Previous management/leadership experience.
Must have CCS/CTCS certification or equivalent. Technical knowledge of tariff classification and customs regulations. Understanding of Participating Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
Ability to identify risk within the customs environment. Strong technology & MS Office skills, especially Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with clients, team members, and CBSA. Descartes experience is an asset. Compensation and Benefits: Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000, depending on experience.
