Program: Pre-Arrival Services - AEIP

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week), this position is expected to end on December 18, 2026

About the Position:

The Settlement Practitioner delivers pre-arrival settlement services to clients (with proof of eligibility for pre-arrival services) and ensures a continuity of service from pre-arrival to post-arrival. The Settlement Practitioner provides settlement services for newcomers under the IRCC project themes: a) Needs Assessments and Referrals; b) Information and Orientation; c) employment related services; and d) Community Connections.


Reports to: Program Manager


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Performs needs assessment for newcomers and their family members and develop pre-arrival action plan based on identified needs
    • Provides one-on-one consultation online, by phone or via email to address individual settlement/employment needs and helps them make informed settlement decisions
    • Plans and organizes group sessions so as to familiarize the new immigrants with available resources in the community and to enhance their adjustment in the Canadian society
    • Conducts and/or moderates orientation and workshops on specific settlement/employment subjects to immigrant clients
    • Works with community service providers in Canada to deliver webinars on topics, such as school system, and health care resources
    • Connects clients with AEIP Canadian Partner for one-on-one consultation on provincial specific preparation prior to departing to Canada
    • Follow ups with clients who landed in Canada for outcomes and evaluation
    • Documents client needs, action items, attendance records, progress notes and outcomes to secured client database and iCare for referral, report and evaluation
    • Maintains and prepares current and accurate statistics, records and reports in order to assist the management team in meeting funders requirements in program monitoring, planning and budgeting
    • Promotes and market the program to suitable contacts within the business, community, non-profit and public sector
    • Participates in staff/committee meetings for the purpose of sharing information and coordinating activities, improving efficiencies and effectiveness


    Education, Training and Experience:

    • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent training
    • Experience in working with immigrants and refugees
    • Knowledgeable about settlement/employment information and resources
    • Knowledgeable of the needs of pre-arrival clients
    • Experience in conducting workshops and events
    • Experience in one-on-one settlement service delivery
    • Knowledgeable in interpersonal and intercultural communication techniques
    • Knowledgeable of Case Management process is an asset


    Job Skills, and Abilities:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; second language is considered an asset
    • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills
    • Able to work independently and strong team player
    • Able to work with individuals and communities facing cultural adjustment challenges
    • Able to create, and maintain client records and reports
    • Able to develop, promote, deliver and facilitate orientation and settlement-related themed workshops
    • Excellent time and resource management skills
    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and basic internet skills
