Your opportunity
The mandate of the Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID), Temerty Faculty of Medicine is to support the Faculty’s commitment to Excellence through Equity by designing, delivering and consulting on innovative and accountable equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives in collaboration with other members of the Temerty Medicine community as well as external partners, which include the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) and community organizations.
As Advisor, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, you will play a key role in advancing the mandate of the OID. You will lead EDI education and training initiatives in collaboration with partners, develop programs and processes related to equity-based practices, support EDI-related committees, and help triage and manage requests for information, consultation, and advice on EDI-related matters throughout Temerty Medicine.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering equity-based educational workshops, resources and programs for faculty, learners and staff, in collaboration with the Centre for Faculty Development, Continuing Professional Development, Toronto Academic Health Science Network, and other partners Chairing and participating in EDI-related committees and communities of practice at the FacultyServing as a key point of contact for consultation, information and advice for EDI leads and faculty/learner development leads in various departments/unitsParticipating in development and review of Faculty policies and processes from an EDI lens in key areas such as promotions, recruitment and retention, and curriculumProvide advisory support by meeting with students, staff, and faculty to discuss confidential concerns, offer guidance, and assist in navigating available resources, including referrals to appropriate formal complaint intake and resolution offices across Temerty MedicineContributing to EDI-related data collection, research and evaluation initiatives
Essential Qualifications
- University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum three years’ related experience successfully implementing and delivering equity, diversity and inclusion programming, training, education, research and community initiatives A thorough understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility frameworksAn understanding and knowledge of trauma-informed and/or culturally safe approaches in delivering EDI related education and supportsThorough understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant legislation/case lawExperience providing support to students, staff, and faculty, including handling confidential concerns, offering guidance, and facilitating access to appropriate resources and referral pathwaysAdvanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and virtual meeting platformsSuperior written and oral communication skillsExcellent interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skillsExcellent organizational ability to develop and deliver effective presentations and workshopsDemonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders and communities in a team environmentDemonstrated abilities to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solveAbility to be innovative and work independentlyDemonstrated ability to relate to learners, staff, and faculty that builds trust and confidenceEffective tact, discretion and good judgement in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive situationsAbility to work under pressure and to meet deadlinesAbility and inclination to keep knowledge, understanding and skills up-to-date and relevant, including current issues, promising practices and current methodologies for promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives
Assets (Nonessential):
- Professional experience in and understanding of complex issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion in a university or hospital environment is strongly preferredProject management certificate or designation
