Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Associate Vice-President, Student Experience & Development provides tactical and operational leadership for a diverse portfolio of student services that foster campus-wide engagement in student success programming, career services, academic advising, and human rights. The AVP is responsible for planning, development, organization, and administration of student development-related policy, and services and ensures a successful flow of information to- and from student development areas and the rest of the University.


The AVP, Student Experience & Development will identify and direct the implementation of service enhancements and oversee the development and growth of student programs that create a safe and welcoming environment for all students. This is a pivotal opportunity for a collaborative leader to strengthen partnerships, advance successful programming, and contribute to MacEwan’s vision of Teaching Greatness through transformative undergraduate education.


The ideal candidate brings at least fifteen years of progressive leadership experience overseeing service delivery and program development, along with a graduate degree (Master’s required; a terminal academic degree permitting appointment to a tenure-track faculty position may be advantageous). This person has a strong track record of success in building student-focused programming and establishing key relationships across an organization. A proven collaborator, this person embodies values of integrity, transparency, trust, respect, and accountability, and cascades those values across the organization. Skilled in strategic and business planning processes, budget development, and risk management, this person can navigate a complex and growing undergraduate University environment, including the ability to operate effectively within a shared bicameral governance structure.


An excellent communicator and relationship-builder, the successful candidate demonstrates diplomacy, and exceptional interpersonal skills. This person operates with creativity, think strategically, and have the ability to help bring MacEwan’s Teaching Greatness vision to life through an engaging, supportive, and enriching campus culture.
