- Piece work: Service Technicians are paid a flat rate based upon a pre-determined number of hours for each job completed.
- The shop uses a standardized labour billing system (pre-determined labour unit) published by industry guides, 'Pro-demand" by Mitchell 1.
- Minimum wage is guaranteed.

Responsibilities
Tasks:
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems.
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems
- Repair or replace mechanical units or components
- Test and adjust repaired systems to the manufacturer's specifications
- Estimate parts and labour costs to perform vehicle maintenance and repairs
- Perform scheduled maintenance service
- Test and adjust units to specifications
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed

- Automotive Service Technician Trade Certification (AIT)
