PureChem Services , the Canadian production chemical division of CES Energy Solutions, is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and organized individual to fill the position of Category Buyer .
This full-time position is located in Calgary, Alberta and reports directly to the Procurement Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Assist in the development of category strategies to achieve savings, generate value, and improve product rationalization, Low-Cost Sourcing and Delivery Requirements. Become an SME for the assigned category by gathering market data to ensure the division understands the supply market, which will be used for analysis.
Communicate such data to key stakeholders within the organization. Monitor material inventory levels and determine purchasing demands based on time-phased planning, forecasting or other tools needed for the job. Generate, document, issue, and review purchase orders, RFx, tenders, COAs and other pertinent documents related to the full purchasing cycle.
Work with other Buyers/Planners to develop key Performance Indicators, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives. Act as effective backup to other categories as needed. Source and qualify new products and suppliers.
Maintain and foster positive, long-term relationships with existing suppliers. Communicate and prepare presentations to senior leadership introducing recommendations/options along with timing highlighting any risks and costs associated with each. Drive standardization and use of procurement best practices.
Other duties as required. Necessary qualifications: The successful candidate must have 1-3 years of progressive purchasing experience, ideally in the procurement of chemicals for the Oil and Gas industry or a highly detailed manufacturing environment. Experience with fracturing projects is a strong asset.
Experience with Materials Resource Planning, Inventory management and or Material Planning. Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in Supply Chain or Business Management or a combination of post-secondary education and a Professional designation (SCMP, CPIM, CSPC) along with related work experience. Excellent verbal and written communication.
Required skillset: Strong analytical, planning/forecasting and negotiating skills. Great attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy. Drive for continuous improvement.
Strong customer focus and the ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the business. Exhibits strong personal values, integrity, and solid business acumen. Ability to build strong relationships across the corporation and vendors.
Ability to work on multiple tasks with conflicting resources and multiple deadlines in a fast-paced growing organization is key to this role. You have a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel, MS Office, and Power BI, as well as the ability to learn new computer applications as needed.
