The Role
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead all corporate and administrative services for the Firm and is directly accountable for all operational aspects of the Finance and Administration functions in the Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver offices, ensuring that consistent and efficient processes are identified and implemented. The COO will oversee and provide strategic direction for all operations, financial, accounting, marketing, human resources, and information technology activities.
Reporting to the Managing Partner, the COO will ensure that continuous improvement practices are developed and implemented to improve quality service levels within the Firm. The COO will work collaboratively with the Firm’s Executive Committee, the Partnership, and members of the management team to ensure the ongoing success of the Firm. The COO will lead performance management, staff development, hiring, disciplinary procedures, and terminations. The COO will possess the skills, competencies, and experience required to make meaningful observations and recommendations, develop sound strategies, and catalyze and implement the Firm’s strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Insightful and relevant oversight of the Firm’s financial operations;
- Provide effective leadership in financial operations;
- Risk management and fostering a positive organizational culture;
- Administration and general management of the administrative functions in the Edmonton and Calgary offices;
- Develop and improve protocols and team structures;
- Regular communication with senior decision-making staff;
- Performance evaluation and compensation structure development;
- Manage overall performance of the corporate and administration team in meeting organizational goals;
- Develop annual operational plans, in collaboration with the management team.
Qualifications
Education
Related University degree or Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field with 10 years of relevant experience in positions of increasing responsibility. Professional designations including but not limited to CPA, CMA, and CFA are considered an asset.
Experience
Previous experience working in a professional services or partnership firm environment across multiple regions. Demonstrated experience establishing financial and administrative policies, processes, and guidelines. Thorough knowledge of financial and administrative operations. Demonstrated experience in financial systems in multi-regional and complex environments. Consistent and successful record of performance coupled with strong credibility and reputation for delivering results.
Competencies and Attributes
Ability to use foresight and strategic planning to provide vision for the Firm. Results-oriented with an adaptable, but disciplined, approach to balancing business considerations. Proven ability to resolve complex problems using high-level persuasion and influencing skills. Excellent leadership skills including strong communication and coaching skills. Ability to manage conflict resolution through collaboration and problem-solving. Strong technical skills are required. Knowledge of “Aderant” is considered an asset.
