The opportunity

The AVP, Business Development will lead and achieve strategic business development objectives to build and maintain a high-value portfolio of large, diversified commercial clients. You will work closely with product partners to develop the right products to tap a variety of market opportunities. This position also coordinates and ensures risk-reward parameters fall within acceptable levels and contributes to achieving efficient business performance. As the ‘face of CWB’ in the market, this position is responsible for delivering full-service banking and financial solutions for CWB clients, with underwriting support from internal partners.

What you’ll be doing


  1. Client centric: Deliver outstanding client experiences at every interaction and execute on plans to continuously build a differentiated experience, in line with CWB’s brand promise.
  2. Sales motivated: Implement an independent marketing plan to achieve targeted business growth mix, with a focus on larger mid-market commercial clients ($10MM+ loan and deposit volume).
  3. Relationship focused: Establish a relationship strategy for each client, identifying key issues surrounding the relationship and implementing a strategy to facilitate the expansion of our partnership with the business.
  4. Financially savvy: Practiced skills in financial statement analysis and effective risk mitigation strategies for credit underwriting.
  5. Market knowledge: Maintain extensive knowledge of clients and prospects, market, competition, and economic factors.
  6. Expert negotiator: Optimize business and client relationships while making win/win determinations.
  7. Adaptable: Identify and respond to changes in the business environment, establishing action plans to address customer issues and priorities.
  8. Trusted partner: Be highly visible, crafting personal credibility and increasing CWB brand awareness & presence with larger businesses.
  9. Champion Mentality: Thrive in a dynamic environment with diverse responsibilities and shifting priorities.

Who we’re looking for & What you’ve done

A bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance, or accounting (or equivalent experience) combined with eight (8) years of commercial banking experience with functions of mid-market commercial lending and adjudication supported by well-developed skills in financial statement analysis, structuring transactions, and knowledge of effective risk mitigation strategies for credit underwriting. Equivalent learning and experience will be considered.
