The Green Line LRT (light rail transit) Project is the largest infrastructure investment in Calgary’s history. It comes with $5.5 billion in commitments from the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta and The City of Calgary. The Green Line LRT is designed to be both a transit system and a platform for future city building opportunities.

As Construction Director you will operate at senior management level, with specific responsibility for the project’s construction activity. You will be responsible for managing the associated interfaces with other parts of the business and the clients, partners etc., and will be responsible for leading a team of construction professionals ensuring that we deliver safely, to budget and programme, and achieve the highest quality standards.The position is based in Calgary . Your role within the team Lead a team of construction professionals in a senior management role; Lead a constructability analysis ; Provide field execution leadership during various phases of the project; Manage superintendents, labour force and subcontractors; Responsible for planning and organizing the work and ordering materials; Administer a major design build subcontract; Ensure compliance with the project requirements; Resolve problems affecting the successful completion of the subcontract work; Monitor and review subcontractor progress and works schedule; Coordinate subcontractor’s schedule with overall Project schedule and other subcontractor’s schedules; Coordinate access requirements between overlapping subcontractors; Coordinate design and construction interfaces with other subcontractors; Monitor quality, safety and environmental performance; Interface with the Client and third parties; Facilitate obtaining any required permits; Coordinate requests for information and issue field instructions; Evaluate, negotiate, quantify and approve changes; Review, negotiate and approve progress payments; Prepare progress reports; Coordinate completion and handover process, including inspections, deficiency lists, handover documentation. The ideal candidate A Bachelor’s degree or diploma from a recognized university, college or technical institute in engineering, construction management, or comparable specialty; Minimum of 15 years of experience in construction project management roles with five years of experience in a senior role for the main contractor on projects >$1B and a minimum of three years of light rail transit experience (strongly preferred); 15 years experience in Construction Management, either as a Contractor or an Owner’s Representative; A minimum three years of structures experience on projects >$1B required; Experience in leading a large team of people and steering the project; Prior experience working as a superintendent required; Experience in large scale LRT projects, and familiar with Target Price delivery methods; Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment involved in the construction of heavy civil / structural works; Proficiency in reading and interpreting contract requirements, including contractor/client negotiations, and issuing clear written instructions; Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and requirements, and quality control processes; Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems including inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects; Combination of contractor side and owner side experience an asset.
