DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE SERVICES
The City of Port Alberni is a community of over 19,000 people. Located centrally on Vancouver Island, we are a well-serviced and growing municipality that offers residents affordable west coast living, as well as proximity to oceans, lakes, rivers, and mountains.
The City of Port Alberni is currently looking for a Deputy Director of Corporate Services to join a progressive and dynamic organization that provides a full range of programs and services to taxpayers.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the successful candidate will assist in providing administrative and organizational support to Council, its committees, and to the Corporate Services Department generally. As a preferred applicant, you must have a sound understanding of public sector management, municipal organization, and Robert’s Rules of Order as well as extensive experience working with people.
In conjunction with the Director, this position oversees the preparation of Council/Committee agendas and minutes, attends meetings, drafts bylaws, policies, reports, and other legal documents, assists with elections and referendums, and performs other duties as assigned. Independent use of discretionary judgement, exceptional communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work well under pressure are essential in this role. The successful candidate will be required to work outside regular working hours from time to time and will act for the Director in their absence.
Qualifications & Experience:
- An undergraduate degree in Public Administration or a related field, plus a minimum of three years’ related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Considerable knowledge of parliamentary procedures, the Community Charter, the Local Government Act, the Freedom of Protection and Privacy Act, and LGMA Records Management practices.
- Considerable experience with and proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring collaboration, commitment, and creativity, as well as the ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills, as well as exemplary problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
- A Certificate in Local Government Administration and previous experience working with legal matters would be considered assets.
This is an exempt position, with a salary range of $105,479 – $121,030, a comprehensive benefit package, and a flex day work schedule. Qualified candidates may apply by forwarding a resume and cover letter by October 4th:
