Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Deputy Provost is a senior member of the Provost’s team, working with, and on behalf of, the Provost to advance the academic vision of the University. In this integral role, the Deputy Provost works with the Provost on the strategic, student-focused goals and objectives of the University and will lead large initiatives to accomplish them. This includes coordinating not only across various student-centred units, but also with academic AVPs, Deans, and other senior leaders within the Faculties and Schools. This role is expected to strengthen relationships within the Provost’s portfolio as well as to engage with relevant external partners and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the Provost in the realization and coordination of the university’s growth aspirations as articulated in the Strategic Vision: Teaching Greatness to inform organizational forecasting, reporting, and decision making.
- Provides oversight, coordination, and integration of student-focused units within the Provost’s portfolio to lead progress on goals and to manage projects and initiatives.
- Provides leadership on cross-functional initiatives to the following positions:
- University Registrar and Associate Vice-President, Strategic Enrollment Management
- Associate Vice-President, Student Support and Accountability
- Associate Vice-President, Student Engagement and Development
- Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Initiatives and Engagement
- The following positions report directly to the Deputy Provost:
- Director, Athletics
- Senior Manager, Office of the Provost
- Academic Quality Assurance Officer
- Academic Quality Assurance Analyst
- Faculty Development Facilitator
- Collaborates with the Deans of MacEwan’s Faculties and Schools on projects that require their involvement or that impact their programs and services.
- Represents the Provost on assigned internal committees.
Education and Experience
- A PhD or equivalent terminal credential is required.
- Progressive academic leadership experience within a post-secondary institution, ideally in Academic Affairs or a comparable academic portfolio.
- A distinguished record of teaching, research, scholarship, and service, with qualifications suitable for a tenured appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and oversight of academic policies and institutional processes.
- Experience working in a student-centered post-secondary environment that prioritizes high-quality teaching and diverse learning modalities.
- Proven ability to lead and support academic colleagues and staff through mentoring, capacity-building, and effective delegation.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative solutions to complex academic or administrative challenges.
