DevOps/Cloud Engineer

Job Description

Overview

The Ontario Public Service (OPS) is seeking an experienced DevOps/Cloud Engineer to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of cloud-based digital products and enterprise applications. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in cloud architecture, DevSecOps pipeline development, automation, and infrastructure management across modern, scalable environments.

ResponsibilitiesCloud Engineering & Platform Development

  • Design, build, and support cloud environments enabling digital product development.
  • Develop, update, and manage service templates for cloud resource provisioning.
  • Create, test, and implement safeguards to maintain data integrity and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Monitor and assess performance of cloud applications, ensuring continuous availability.
  • Design cloud architecture and deployment models aligned with OPS standards.
  • Configure and maintain platform components such as logging, monitoring, alerting, auditing, and vulnerability detection.

DevSecOps & Automation

  • Build, maintain, and optimize DevSecOps pipelines for traditional and containerized workloads.
  • Enable application runtime environment provisioning using automation tools.
  • Implement CI/CD solutions using modern DevSecOps toolchains.
  • Set up SAST/DAST and container vulnerability scanning solutions and workflows.

Operational Support

  • Support troubleshooting activities related to platform components and cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain systems used for web technologies, Linux environments, and container platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to security standards, architectural guidelines, and OPS best practices.

Coordination & Communication (20%)

  • Coordinate initiatives across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in change planning and implementation activities.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for operations and support procedures.

Cloud Architecture (30%)

  • Deploy and optimize applications on public cloud environments (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Build Terraform templates and Ansible playbooks (must-have).
  • Work with Kubernetes-based cloud platforms (OpenShift highly desirable).
  • Utilize cost models and architectural best practices.

N-Tier Application Hosting (20%)

  • Support traditional n-tier application architectures and infrastructures.
  • Work with RHEL, IBM WebSphere/Liberty/NDM, and application/web servers.
  • Support FTP/SFTP or Managed File Transfer solutions (asset).
  • Exposure to network technologies (firewalls, load balancers, DNS).

DevSecOps Focus (25%)

  • Manage DevSecOps tooling such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus, UrbanCode Deploy/Velocity.
  • Implement workload scanning and vulnerability mitigation processes.

Public Sector Experience (5%)

  • Experience working with OPS, BPS, or other government agencies is preferred.

Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves)

  • DevSecOps pipeline build and maintenance
  • Application runtime environment provisioning using automation tools
  • Cloud architecture and deployment model design
  • Linux shell scripting
  • OpenShift administration, Azure PowerShell, and Azure CLI
  • Experience building Terraform templates and Ansible playbooks
  • Experience with OCP (OpenShift Container Platform)

Nice to Have

  • Relevant cloud and DevOps certifications (Azure, AWS, OpenShift, Terraform, etc.)

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From $60.00 per hour
