Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Director, Indigenous Relations, who will be responsible for providing strategic oversite and implementation of the consultation and engagement process with First Nations on the Projects.

Key Accountabilities:
- Establishes and maintains trusting, collaborative, productive and respectful relationships with First Nations to ensure an atmosphere of trust, openness and communication based on shared objectives.
- Manages cross-disciplinary engagement between the project team, executive and Project Co to ensure alignment on Indigenous Relations needs and provides support for project delivery.
- Oversees the development, negotiation, execution, and implementation of agreements with First Nations, focusing on collaboration and open dialogue.
- Provides strategic advice regarding Indigenous engagement and consultation on major projects to ensure consistency with strategic direction.
- Manages staff including recruitment, assignment of work, development and evaluation of performance expectations, career guidance, approvals of leave, and performance management.
- Develops and manages consultation strategies for the Indigenous Relations team with First Nations for regulatory processes, including environmental assessments.
- Liaises with Project Co on Indigenous Relations project requirements to ensure delivery of project agreement requirements.
- Liaises directly with regulators on regulatory and permitting process progress and issues and fosters solutions-oriented relationships to overcome challenges.
- Manages diverse consultant teams and to ensure that their deliverables are met, including work planning, assignment of work, and evaluation of performance.
- Oversees the development and delivery of documents, technical reports, and presentations to internal and external audiences.
- Supports the development and implementation of learning and development for staff in the fields of Indigenous relations and regulatory affairs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field such as First Nations and Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, Natural Resources Management or related, and significant experience of demonstrated leadership in the field of Indigenous relations and regulatory affairs; or a combination of related education and experience.
- Cultural awareness of the Indigenous peoples of British Columbia.
- Current understanding of case law and Provincial legislation related to Indigenous matters.
- Ability to work cross-culturally and translate and distil complex ideas, information, and build consensus.
- Project management skills with an ability to manage key initiatives and budgets simultaneously.
- Demonstrated effective negotiation skills and conflict resolution.
- Strong analytical and professional judgment skills,
- Experience in the context of major projects preferred.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and prioritizing skills to anticipate and assess issues and determine best solution or course of action.
