Posted: August 20, 2024 Closing Date: September 3, 2024 Position Type: Permanent Union: MP ENMAX Values – Safety, Integrity, Accountability, Service, Teamwork, Agility, Innovation The Director of Internal Audit is a board mandated role, and as such will work closely with the Vice President Internal Audit to provide independent, objective assurance and advisory services to assist ENMAX in achieving its objectives. Internal Audit uses a systematic, disciplined approach to add value and improve effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.

Major Responsibilities: Lead the internal audit team to deliver projects on the annual audit plan in accordance with professional standards by: Meeting regularly with business stakeholders to plan for upcoming audit work and agree on objectives and scope. Ensuring alignment on audit projects with business strategy and objectives. Planning audit team resourcing to complete the annual audit plan with deliverables to the Audit Committee quarterly.

Overseeing key milestones including engagement letter, audit program and audit report for all audit projects. Assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of Company processes and controls and compliance with internal and external requirements. Reviewing and presenting audit reports to communicate findings effectively with senior leadership; prepare audit summary slides for quarterly Audit Committee report.

Leading the follow up of open audit issues process, including senior leadership escalations. Lead the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) compliance program including financial statement risk assessment, control definition, certification, testing, reporting and remediation by: Communicating with stakeholders on ICFR testing status and timing. Planning team resources to complete control testing and remediation.

Reviewing all test results and develop ICFR reporting. Communicating ICFR test results with stakeholders. Build a diverse team of internal auditors; train and coach staff in the audit process including audit execution and issue identification in accordance with professional standards and ethics.

Act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders by collaborating on effective risk mitigation solutions and adding value through problem solving. Assist in preparing the annual risk-based annual audit plan by participating in risk assessment, stakeholder discussions and review of enterprise risk management results; ensure the annual audit plan aligns with business strategy. Assist the Vice President in conducting work to achieve the Audit Charter and Audit Committee mandate; help develop the internal audit strategy following the Internal Audit Professional standards.

Education: University degree in one or more core competency disciplines (Engineering, Business, Accounting, Finance). Professional designations desirable: CIA, CISA, P.Eng, CPA. Qualifications and Experience: 10 years’ work experience in the energy or electricity industry. 5 years’ experience successfully leading a team.

Experience in IT, OT, Operations, Projects or other functions; diverse experience working in business line function outside of internal audit or finance. Understanding and experience in Alberta electricity industry; knowledge of regulated and unregulated business. Understanding of internal audit and internal control principles, professional standards and process improvement.

Communication at all levels, written and verbal, professionalism and credibility with senior and executive management. Ability to build relationships across departments and at all levels.

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 – 50 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Note: Initial interviews may be done virtually as well as parts of our on-boarding and job training may be completed remotely.
