GRT’s Resource Regeneration Facility in Nanaimo produces sustainable, clean rock products from unwanted excavation soils. Reporting to the CFO and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance is responsible for providing accurate reporting and meaningful analysis to support GRT’s ongoing financial success. Working closely with the Operations team, the Director of Finance plays a key role in optimizing plant performance and efficiency, in addition to being involved in all financial aspects of the organization. 

Beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, the Director of Finance will be responsible for the integration and implementation of a broad range of strategies and tactics to assist with planned expansion and ensure the timely and prudent decision-making of the CFO, CEO and Board of Directors. 

We are looking for someone who lives in the Metro Vancouver area.

This position will be remote to start, and eventually on site at our planned Vancouver facility.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

 

• Lead the annual budget and reforecast processes

• Support the operations team in the development of project pricing and performance management

• Lead GRT’s monthly internal and external financial reporting

• Implement process improvements to optimize business operations and financial record keeping

• Manage the insurance and risk management program

• Provide accurate information and reporting to support cash flow management and strategic business decisions

• Coordinate the annual external audit

• Ensure the accurate and timely filing of compliance returns including GST, PST, WCB, and Stats Canada

• Contribute to planned business expansion through capital budgeting and project financial planning

• Administer reporting to government funding programs

• Assist with the completion of corporate income tax returns

• Support the accounting, credit, billing, accounts payable, and payroll functions

• Maintain supporting software including Sage Intacct, RBC Express, Expensify, Rise, Adobe 

• Liaise with auditors, bankers, lawyers, and insurance brokers regarding professional services rendered

 

Qualifications:

• Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation, or CPA in progress

• 3-5 years’ experience in a Controller or Director of Finance role is required

• Demonstrated skill in numerical proficiency, organization, and strong logical disposition

• Experience in a related industry is an asset

• Robust leadership skills and ability to communicate in a clear and informed demeanour

• Strong work ethic with the ability to work overtime as needed along with a big-picture method to approaching tasks

• Knowledge and proficiency with Excel are required

• Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
