Stepping Stones Crisis Society

Stepping Stones is accepting applications for a full time, permanent, Director of Operations , in preparation for the expansion of their programs and completion of the new location. Stepping Stones Crisis Society is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by domestic violence and crisis situations. Based in Cold Lake, Alberta, they provide a safe and nurturing environment where those in need can find refuge, support, and resources to rebuild their lives.

They offer a range of services, including emergency shelter, counselling, education, and advocacy, all aimed at empowering clients to overcome their challenges and achieve long-term stability and safety. The Director of Operations will oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments, ensuring that Stepping Stones Crisis Society delivers high-quality services in line with its mission to support individuals affected by domestic violence and those in crisis. This role reports directly to the CEO and will manage various administrative and support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities Oversee daily operations, including shelter services, outreach programs, security, kitchen, facilities and housekeeping, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Client Care on the creation, monitoring, and implementation of frontline programs, ensuring that they meet client needs and align with organizational goals. Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies, standards, and procedures to streamline workflows and improve productivity related to shelter management, client safety, and service delivery.

Work with the facilities and security teams to ensure a safe, welcoming, and functional environment for both staff and clients. Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, including health and safety requirements for shelters and crisis support facilities. Supervise and mentor department heads.

Facilitate training and development to build a high performing and motivated team. Collaborate to develop and manage operational department budgets. Work closely with CEO to align operational strategies with long term goals.

Lead initiatives to expand and enhance Stepping Stones’ services and programs, including future shelter and outreach expansions. Contribute to capital campaign efforts by providing operational requirements and infrastructure planning input. Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, including local law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other support organizations, to facilitate referrals and enhance client support.

In conjunction with the Management Team serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, promoting a culture of open communication and collaboration. Represent Stepping Stones Crisis Society in relevant community forums, strengthening the organization’s network and community presence. Education Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience and Skills Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role in a nonprofit or social service organization. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and planning. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a dynamic work environment. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements affecting nonprofit operations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other relevant tools.
