We are seeking an innovative and experienced product leader to join our team to lead product development for the SmartHome+ platform at TELUS. The SmartHome+ platform is a first-of-its-kind, global, device-agnostic, smart home platform which enables cutting-edge services like home automation, energy management, home health monitoring, home security, and aging in place. At TELUS, we are growing fast, leveraging the power of first and third-party smart device ecosystems to turn every home into a user-friendly smart home with simple low-touch setup and ubiquitous control from a single interface augmented with AI. We use our connected device orchestration solutions to enable unique services that provide greater control, convenience, peace of mind, and economic benefit to consumers.

This platform is currently powering an expanding set of TELUS’ consumer-facing SmartHome product offerings in Canada. This is being followed shortly by product launches at a growing number of B2B customers globally. We are looking to this role to help develop and scale this platform to become a global leader in this space.

What you’ll do

As Director, Product Development, SmartHome+, you will shape the vision and strategic direction of our smart home platform and associated services ranging from turn-key solutions enabling quick time-to-market for new customers, to low-level platform services, that enable highly customized solutions that are deeply integrated into the business operations of our customers.

You will drive success for our platform customers including TELUS’s Canadian SmartHome business and help nurture and grow our broad B2B customer network globally. You will oversee the entire product lifecycle from ideation to global deployment and lead a team of exceptional product managers, collaborating with the SmartHome+ development teams and strategic partners like AWS and the top smart device manufacturers in creating great software that enables our customers to build and deploy exceptional Smart Home services.



You’ll recruit, develop and grow exceptional talent, partnering with industry-leading technology pioneers in this area to support and build a talented group of product managers and a strong customer-first culture focused on building amazing products and exceptional business results.

  • Known for your ability to build and foster an environment of innovation by:
    • championing a compelling vision and strategy, which the organization can rally behind
    • engaging closely with global B2B clients across industries, gathering insights, understanding pain points, and translating them into actionable product requirements
    • using scalable and agile software development practices to empower and enable independent, high-performing squads of product owners and developers to achieve exceptional outcomes
    • staying ahead of industry trends in smart home, IoT, and device-agnostic technologies, ensuring our platform remains at the forefront of innovation. Nurturing partnerships with key device, platform and hyperscale partners
    • Demonstrating an ability to define, build and deploy innovative consumer-facing products; ideally in the smart home or connected home space, but related software development experience in subscription services, PaaS/SaaS services are relevant as well. Comfort with diving deep into technical topics where necessary and step back to provide a strategic and market perspective
    • providing guidance, prioritization and direction to your team in a complex product environment with dozens of squads and multiple customer priorities
    • creating a culture of ownership at all levels, with a customer-first focus and a high-quality bar
    • being a voice for inclusivity, creating an environment where people are comfortable sharing ideas, bringing forward opportunities and solutions

  • You are a great teacher of the Software Product Management discipline and have an eye for talent, with proven ability to attract and recruit the best in the game
  • Recognized for your ability to present ideas and opportunities to all levels of an organization, with an ability to create a development roadmap and translate it into implementation and delivery objectives
  • Talented at bringing people together, rallying them around ideas and building relationships across internal teams and leading edge partners
  • The ability to evaluate and collaboratively evolve product strategy, set clear and challenging goals, relentlessly focus and prioritize effort, foster partnership and oversee enterprise wide programs and to be tenacious and accountable in enabling results


Great to have

  • Significant agile software product management experience (10+ years)
  • Undergrad degree in technical or business discipline e.g. software development, computer science, engineering, marketing, economics, business, etc
  • 7+ years experience in senior management capacity leading high-performance teams
  • Demonstrated expertise launching disruptive and innovative consumer products and/or services
  • Experience developing product partnerships and complex commercial agreements
  • Experience in product and user experience design
  • Working knowledge and passion for smart home automation, IoT and related technologies

Salary Range: $128,000-$192,000

Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan: 30%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
