Reporting directly to the Pre-Construction Manager & Entitlements, the multi-family construction estimator plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations, focusing on the preparation of cost estimations for various multifamily projects with a focus on multi-family construction.

In this dynamic role, the Estimator is tasked with a range of responsibilities, which include but are not limited to: Role and Responsibilities Cost Estimation – provide precise and reliable cost estimates for mid-rise apartments and commercial construction projects through drawing, specifications, and subtrades. for models, sales, and jobs on weekly, monthly, or yearly schedule as required and identifies cost savings wherever possible. Budget Development – Develop detailed project budgets that align with internal and external clients, and project goals. Explore opportunities for value engineering / cost savings to optimize costs while maintaining or improving the quality and functionality of the project.

Risk management – identify potential risks and uncertainties in the project and incorporate contingency plans in cost estimation to mitigate risks. Prepare, review, and analyze tender submissions received for accuracy; revise proposals; compare pricing across all submissions to determine the most accurate and cost-effective submission. Work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to refine and update cost estimates.

Maintain organized and accurate documentation of all estimation-related activities, ensuring transparency and accountability. Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements Post-secondary degree or diploma in Building, Construction Management, Architectural Technologies, Quantity Surveying or equivalent from a recognized technical institute. 5 years’ experience in multi-family construction is required; please ensure resume details multi-family townhomes and small apartment experience. Excellent working knowledge of the Alberta Building Codes. Preference given to construction estimation software such as Bluebeam and/or Revit.

Preferred Skills Ability to interpret and provide comments on architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical blueprints and specifications and costing points of view. Expert working knowledge of Excel and MS Project. Effective verbal, written and listening communication skills.

Proven planning, communication, organizing, analytical decision making and negotiating skills.
