Executive Director

Kids Kottage Foundation

THE ORGANIZATION In June 1995, more than 40 corporate leaders and individuals committed their support to make Kids Kottage a reality. Leaders like the ‘First Lady’ of Alberta at the time, Mrs. Colleen Klein, and community leader and businessman, Mr.

J.R. Shaw were two of the first to put their support behind the Kids Kottage vision. Since the inception of the Kottage, they have evolved in their programming and philosophies to meet the needs of thousands of children.

For nearly 30 years the Kottage has been a safe place for infants and children up to 11 years facing crises at home. They offer emergency respite care for children for up to 72 hours, as well as parental support in navigating their way out of crisis, that includes issues of homelessness, addiction, mental health, threat of family violence, poverty, or any number of issues that may lead to neglect or abuse if left unaddressed. After the children return home, they ensure parents have on-going support to ensure home remains a safe place for children.

Kids Kottage is Edmonton’s only 24-hour crisis nursery and is one of three in the Country. There are a lot of people in this world who need help. But there are a few more deserving of help than those under the age of eleven. It’s about right now.

It’s about the future. It’s about economics. It’s about human potential.

It’s about doing the right thing. It’s about breaking the cycle. It’s about giving children a chance to live.

It’s about the belief that every child deserves to feel SAFE. That’s why Kids Kottage exists. Kids Kottage Mission is to ensure every infant and child is kept safe, and their families are provided with the resources they need to build a strong and resilient future.
