Porter’s Lake Medical Clinic is located a short 40-minute drive from Halifax (30 minutes from Dartmouth). This practice is currently located in a private office but will be relocating to a new space (managed by Nova Scotia Health) beside the Superstore on Highway 7, in the summer. The new space will house two full time family physicians, and nurse practitioner, plus admin staff to support billings and bookings.


We are recruiting a 1.0 FTE physician to join the existing provider. The new physician will provide a combination of office-based primary care, coverage for the long-term care facility (the Birches), ED shifts and inpatient bed coverage at the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital. A physician in this area needs to support a combination of the services needed in the community.


Compensation is through the Longitudinal Family Medicine Rural contract type, which remunerates physicians according to the number of services they provide. Estimated salary for a physician providing office-based family practice, ED, inpatient and LTC coverage is $440,000.


The new physician joining the team will be expected to take over a portion of a retiring physician's panel.


Responsibilities


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures;



  • Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention

  • Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners

  • Act as a patient’s advocate

  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations

  • Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements


Porters Lake is a rural community in the Eastern Shore region of the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located between Trunk 7 and Route 207, 27.8 km from Halifax. The residents mainly commute to jobs in Dartmouth, Burnside Industrial Park or in Downtown Halifax. The community is built around the lake from which it takes its name.


Although considered a rural community within the municipality. The community has been slowly growing, year by year. The area has many amenities and recreational opportunities. In the main shopping area located off Trunk 7, you can find shopping, gas stations, restaurants, banking, pharmacy and more. Urban sprawl has made Porters Lake a popular area for families looking for a quiet community with close access to the 107 Highway into Dartmouth. The community is serviced by Metro Transit X route 370.
