Sissons Farms Ltd. is a pedigree seed and grain operation located near Portage la Prairie, MB. We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated farm operator to play a key role in the day-to-day and seasonal operations of our farm. This is a full-time, year-round position intended for individuals with proven experience in grain and seed production.

Our operation spans approximately 4,500 acres, producing wheat, oats, canola, soybeans, peas, and edible beans, and operates a modern fleet of New Holland equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently perform daily, preventive, and annual maintenance on farm machinery, equipment, and trucks

• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in both shop and field settings

• Complete annual servicing and off-season repairs in a heated shop

• Operate and manage the seed cleaning plant during winter months

• Safely and efficiently operate tractors, seeding and tillage equipment, sprayers, tandem grain trucks, and augers with minimal supervision

• Monitor grain inventories and maintain accurate, detailed records

• Coordinate and fulfill customer seed pickups

• Assist with building, yard, and property maintenance as required

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in western farming practices

• Demonstrated experience operating modern farm equipment and grain handling systems

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment

• Comfortable performing metal work and welding

• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or higher with experience operating tandem grain trucks

• Ability and willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons, including early mornings, late nights, evenings, and weekends, as required during seeding, spraying, and harvest

• Must have reliable transportation to and from the farm

• Strong working knowledge of safe equipment operation and farm safety practices

• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, communicate clearly and make sound decisions

• Comfortable with technology and digital record-keeping systems

• Physically capable of demanding farm work in varying conditions

• Dependable, honest, and professional work ethic
