Fertility Nurse
Job Description
Summary
The Fertility Nurse manages the day-to-day experiences of patients at Pollin from a new patient consultation to cycle monitoring to the early pregnancy program.

Manager, Clinical Nursing
Job Duties
- Day-to-Day Patient Experience - Weekdays
- Collaborate with a team of Physicians, Nurses, Laboratory and Administrative staff on a daily basis as required
- Communicate, counsel and educate patients on their fertility journey (treatment plans, medications, consents and payment schedules and more)
- Coordinate, prepare and educate patients on diagnostic and treatment cycles
- Assist patients in understanding the emotional and medical implications of fertility treatment
- Accurately dispense medications and ensuring pharmacy is well stocked as required
- Monitor patient’s recovery after an egg retrieval as required
- Communicate with patients via phone/email/patient portal to provide accurate medical instructions and respond to any inquiries/concerns
- Practice in accordance with the code of ethics and standards as set by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Take an active role in department policies, processes and procedures by monitoring and maintaining standards of care in conjunction with other team members
- Promote a positive work environment and culture, be accountable for personal conduct and actively participate in staff meetings
- Attend clinic wide meetings
- Consistently arrives to work, to scheduled appointments and meetings on time
- Deals constructively with conflict and focuses on alignment of behaviours with mission
- Understands importance of nursing documentations: writes clearly and informatively, and edits work for spelling and grammar
- Maintains confidentiality, security of records and patient information at all times
- Complies with company policies, procedures and dress code
- Undertakes specific tasks and projects assigned by supervisor
- Weekend and holiday rotation as required
- On-call rotation as required
- Other duties as required
- Meeting with patients during monitoring to discuss results and dispense medications
- Stim check of CM stims – including stimulation sheets and requisitions as required
- Meeting with REI to review results and receive orders for next steps as required
- Booking of IUIs and semen sample collection appointments for CM patients
- Contacting patients daily with results and instructions
- Booking of OPU’s for IVF patients when required
Qualifications
- Current CNO registration and in good standing
- Current Professional Liability Insurance
- Current BCLS certification required, ACLS an asset
- Previous 2-5 years experience in fertility setting, is an advantage
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Above average technical skills, comfortable working with an EMR
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
- High level of compassion and empathy
- Strong time management, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills
- Effective organization skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a cross functional team, maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and patients
- Ability to manage conflicting demands
- Knowledge about providing a safe and inclusive environment to gender and sexually diverse people (2SLGBTQIA+)
- Training and/or experience in the field of infertility and/or Women’s Health
Skills
- Strong skills in educating and counseling patients about treatment options, procedures, potential risks, and emotional considerations
- Ability to manage and interpret large sets of clinical data, which is crucial for tracking patient treatment plans and outcomes
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, particularly those pertaining to fertility treatments and patient privacy
- Experience working in a team that may include reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists, and other healthcare professionals
- Proficient in Google Suite
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Superior patient service skills, confidentiality and a professional demeanor
