Job Description THE OPPORTUNITY We have an excellent opportunity for a General Manager to join a full interior systems contractor specializing in drywall and steel stud construction company based in Edmonton. Reporting to the President, the General Manager will lead and oversee operations across multiple locations. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the business and projects, identifying and implementing key processes and procedures, mentoring operational leaders, and driving the company’s growth.
This role requires a strategic thinker with a reputation and background in sales and project management that has managed large-scale projects and people on time and on budget. It would also be advantageous if they have worked as a subcontractor or general contractor in the construction industry. To learn more about Project X Construction Ltd., visit their website at www.projectxconstructionltd.com RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee and manage all aspects of operations across multiple locations, ensuring the effective execution of projects and alignment with company objectives. Identify, implement, and streamline processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
Mentor and develop operational leaders to take on higher responsibilities. Identify team strengths and provide guidance and coaching to maximize their potential. Make informed decisions on large-scale projects, proactively mitigating risks and ensuring project success.
Develop and manage budgets, including cost reporting, labour costing, and overall financial planning. Identify opportunities for cost savings and ensure accurate and timely job costing. Drive the company’s growth strategy, focusing on expanding operations and achieving financial goals.
Cultivate relationships with clients and explore new business opportunities in key markets. Oversee the implementation and utilization of the company’s ERP system, ensuring its effective use for documentation and reporting purposes. Ensure all operations comply with safety standards and regulations.
Foster a safety-conscious culture across all project sites. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business. The role requires a significant presence at the main office, with travel to other locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 10 years of experience in general management, with a strong background in construction, project management, or related industries. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, construction management, or a related field would be an asset. Extensive experience in people management both in the field and in office (hiring, firing, performance managing, coaching and mentoring, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams, focusing on developing future leaders within the organization. Proven track record of managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously on time and on budget. Financial acumen estimating, budgeting, costing, forecasting and planning.
Familiarity with ERP systems and software (Plexus an asset) and experience with change management modernizing and professionalising the business. Experience with both operations and sales and working in multi-site locations. KEY COMPETENCIES Well networked and a leader in the construction industry.
Comfortable driving sales and business development to expand the business. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Capable of making high-stakes decisions that align with the company’s long-term goals.
Ability to foresee potential challenges and proactively address them. Ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams to achieve their full potential. A firm but open leadership style that balances authority with approachability.
Skilled in identifying inefficiencies and implementing processes that improve operational effectiveness. Deep understanding of budgeting, cost management, and financial forecasting. Ability to manage large-scale project budgets with precision.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships. Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver practical solutions.
