THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic General Manager to join Sharp Trucking Services, a Division of Contrans Tank Group GP Inc., a TFI International Company, to be based in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Senior Vice President in Ontario, the General Manager will lead the strategic direction and operational excellence for the business headquartered in Edmonton, with additional branches in Sparwood, BC, McLeese Lake, BC, and Sudbury, ON.
THE ORGANIZATION
Sharp Trucking Services, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is a transportation company specializing in hauling for the explosive industry. Mine roads and mine sites are the end delivery of the majority of their services in Canada. They service BC, AB, SK, MB, ON and PQ.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership for Sharp Trucking Services within Contrans Tank Group, aligning with TFI International’s policies and procedures.
- Oversee the integration of systems, processes, and personnel.
- Manage daily operations, including transportation, maintenance, and safety.
- Work with current and new customers on opportunities in coordination with our sales group.
- Develop and implement plans to enhance efficiency, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and manage operational costs, including fuel, maintenance, and labor, to optimize profitability and ensure budget adherence.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to drive efficiencies and exceed KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for drivers, equipment, and operating permits.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety performance and service quality.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and safety.
- Align the team with operational, business development, and financial goals.
- Maintain strong relationships with key customers and support business development and growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, logistics, transportation).
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the transportation or logistics industry, preferably in a similar specialized or hazardous materials-focused environment.
- Proven track record of successfully integrating and optimizing acquired businesses.
- Thorough understanding of transportation operations, including fleet management, maintenance, and safety.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze and interpret financial data to drive business decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
