Graphic Designer

ASPECT Structural Engineers

WHAT’S THE JOB?. ASPECT Structural Engineers is in search of a Graphic Designer to join our Marketing & Communications team. This role reports directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications and may be based in Toronto, Ontario or Vancouver, BC.

A BIT ABOUT THE PERSON WHO WILL EXCEL IN THIS ROLE You are a professional graphic designer and visual storyteller who appreciates that every design element should have a reason. You’ve already built up an impressive portfolio that you’re proud of and are looking for an opportunity where you can exercise your design muscle a bit. You appreciate flexibility and feedback in equal measure, and are able to work independently or as part of a team.

While you understand that some projects must be completed quickly, you understand the art of balancing short and long-term deadlines. You are also so organized that you have a tendency to label your layers (even though nobody looks at your layers panel…you know it’s there…). When you’re not exploring other work online that inspires you, you’re pushing your limits by trying new tricks and tools in programs you haven’t touched for a while.

You enjoy routine, but also love the opportunity to work on many different types of projects – from video, to editorial, to illustration. You also love to add your own approaches to a project – you don’t just do what’s asked but are also ready to speak up to make sure the ultimate product is designed well. Most of all, you are passionate about building a brand, and are ready to provide design guidance to a kind, energetic, and global team.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Creating brand-forward marketing and external communications graphics for B2B digital and print media, including flyers, brochures, posters, eblasts, and social media. Creating clear, accessible, and brand-forward internal communications graphics for company-wide communications, including annual branded documents, reporting, internal training videos, and graphics for our internal intranet. Establishing templates for use by the Marketing and Communications team (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop) across our internal and external channels.

Establishing templates for use by the larger ASPECT team (e.g., Powerpoint, Word) to streamline the areas where direct graphic design support is required. Creating and curating our project photo library, including supporting organization and use. Working with external vendors as required to build up our staff photo library.

Working with external vendors and project partners as required to secure project photography and videography. Creating infographics, videos, and other graphic collateral that explain complex topics in new, interesting, and clear ways. Supporting the creation of large presentation decks for conference and client presentations.

Updating graphics on the website as required, providing new, creative ideas for displaying and organizing information. Tracking key team information through project management software, communicating deadlines, and tracking new initiatives through self-driven organization practices. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED Minimum 3-5 years of relevant graphic design experience.

A degree/diploma in graphic design, visual design, or illustration. Working knowledge of and ability to use full Adobe Creative Cloud, with (minimum) intermediate-level knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. A strong eye for design, with experience in managing digital arts or graphic design.

A strategic and critical thinker who can generate visually-compelling, creative ideas and develop successful, targeted content. Extreme attention to detail. The ability to balance short- and long-term deadlines, working independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines. UX or UI design experience is an asset.
