We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to lead our Software Engineering team as Head of Engineering at our Vancouver, BC office. You will be hands on and customer-obsessed, while possessing the ability to make difficult trade-offs, and face issues head-on. This leader should be entrepreneurially minded, have experience working in an agile organization and know how to build and maintain world-class software. Additionally, a proven history of building great products, driving adoption, making commitments and meeting timelines is a must. While you’re uncompromising about execution, and love solving hard problems, you’re equally committed to individual mentorship and career development for your team. Our engineering team will need to grow to accomplish our near-term goals. This will require recruiting, mentorship, and scaling expertise. What you’ll be doing:

  1. Lead and manage the software engineering department, overseeing all engineering operations and ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
  2. Develop and implement engineering strategies, processes, and practices to ensure high-quality product development and delivery.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, client services, sales, and marketing to drive innovation and ensure successful product launches.
  4. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the engineering team.
  5. Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top engineering talent, ensuring a high-performance team.
  6. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  7. Manage the engineering budget, including resource allocation, project prioritization, and cost control.
  8. Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance productivity and product quality.
  9. Monitor and report on key performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  10. Ensure the security, reliability, performance, and scalability of our platforms.
  11. Lead by example, demonstrating strong technical expertise and providing mentorship and guidance to the engineering team.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Who you are:

Candidates must possess a highly developed sense of empathy, with a focus on ensuring the best experience for our partners, clients, and the end-consumer.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience, with 4+ years in a senior engineering leadership role, preferably within a similar industry.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in relevant technologies and methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Adept at working in an agile environment with talented engineering teams.
  • Ability to manage and balance evolving priorities. There will always be more than you can do in a day, so you need to continually make sure you have the right priorities and focus.
  • A player-coach leadership mentality with proven success at developing product talent.
