Job Description

As a member of the health care team, the HCA supports patient care through patient flow, equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment and participation in selected patient care activities. The HCA provides support to patients, families and those providing service and/or care. The HCA functions according to the job description for Health Care Aides.

1. Grade 12 education; must be able to read and write English proficiently
2. Complete Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR (completed within the last 12 months)
3. Completion of Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide Certificate
5. Minimum 2 years technical experience in a similar role (the handling, reprocessing and care of delicate equipment) within a fast paced health care environment
6. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in using Meditech, Community Wide Scheduling and Sovera
7. Experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies
8. Working knowledge of Universal Precautions, Additional Precautions and WHMIS
9. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills
10. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions, set priorities and organize work accordingly in a busy environment
12. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body techniques.

Monday to Sunday; days/evenings

Ambulatory Care at Hamilton Health Sciences encompasses a variety of medical and surgical clinics. The Ear Nose & Throat Clinic provides both tertiary level care to both Pediatrics and Adults. The clinic provides care in all areas of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, including pediatric ENT (ears, nose and throat), head and neck surgery and oncology, rhinology, skull base surgery, otology, neurotology, facial plastic and skin cancer surgery, laryngology and general otolaryngology. The clinic also provides, voice audiology, swallowing, tonsillectomy assessments and therapies, as well as surgical care relative to Otolaryngology to children and adults. The Ear Nose and Throat clinic is located at both the McMaster Site and the Hamilton General Site.
