To support the on-going growth of our business, we are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator (Scrap Handler): with superior time management skills to join our busy South Edmonton location.

This role is responsible for the safe operation of a material handler within the shredder yard and facility for the purpose of moving, loading and sorting materials on-site, and unloading customers.


The ideal candidate will be safety conscious, have previous experience operating a material handler or other heavy equipment, sound judgment, and a positive can-do attitude.

This position is a night shift, Sunday to Thursday from 9:00PM to 6:00AM and the starting hourly rate is $27-32, dependent on experience.

There will be an additional $2.00 per hour shift premium added as well.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate material handler in a safe and effective manner
  • Move, reduce, process, and load materials as dictated by production activity
  • Pile, spread, or sort product by grade for appropriate placement on site
  • Understand product/material information
  • Clean and service equipment as scheduled or required
  • There is potential to crosstrain into our Shredder and E-Crane as well
  • Other assigned work as required

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Excellent control, coordination, response and dexterity skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills
  • Organizational and time management abilities
  • Resultsoriented team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to actively listen and use creativity to solve problems
  • Ability to recognize the environmental factors and risks that enable and support safety in the workplace
  • Ability to maintain professionalism always and work with limited supervision
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to complete reports as required
  • Ability to multitask and meet objectives/deliverables
  • High standards for work, meticulous, with great attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Confident, resourceful, and highly motivated
  • Possess A ‘cando’ attitude

Education and Experience:


  • 3+ years’ experience operating hydraulic cranes/material handlers
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Safety conscious
