The HR Business Partner develops effective relationships with executive and senior leadership in assigned clients/departments to proactively solve business problems, and achieve business goals through pragmatic, data driven HR solutions. The successful candidate will partner with our North American Information Services (IS) and Canadian Commercial Assets, Supply & Trading organizations. #Plains

This position is based in downtown Calgary and will be eligible to work on our hybrid work schedule


Leadership Business Partnership
Builds trust to foster effective relationships with executive and senior leadership to influence and achieve business results

Consults with assigned business groups, stakeholders, and HR Centres of Excellence (COE’s) to identify business needs

Collates and interprets data to develop solutions that improve team relationships, build morale, increase productivity and employee retention


Uses data and business acumen to analyze and diagnose root causes of work environment issues using facts and data to provide recommended solutions

Collaborates with the HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure HR solutions address business challenges, and generate business value

Leads change by partnering with executive and senior leadership on planning, implementing, and communicating necessary changes involving employees



Leads the implementation of annual HR programs (e.g., performance management process, compensation, development & succession planning) within the assigned client groups

Provides guidance and project management on organizational restructures and workforce planning

Employee Relations
Consults with executive and senior leadership on employee relations issues and provides guidance where appropriate


Provides continuous and consistent performance management guidance to executive senior leadership (coaching, career development, disciplinary actions)

Collaborates with the legal department as needed on complex employee relations matters

Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations to manage and resolve complex employee relations issues


Analysis & Strategic Thinking
Completes ongoing analysis of employee/talent data and reports on trends, concerns and wins to senior leadership including;
Position Management

Headcount, Turnover, Exit data


Internal equity

Employee engagement

Develop innovative strategies and roadmaps aligned to the strategic business goals

Partners with senior leaders to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities and provides strategies to get the best results from employees


Assess the employee implications of business decisions and recommends mitigating strategies to ensure employees stay productive and engaged.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Psychology, or a related discipline

5-8 years of experience in an HR Business Partner, Employee Relations, or similar role with a focus on partnering with senior leaders and performance consulting


Ability to travel up to 15%, mostly to the US for team and client meetings

A demonstrated ability to:
Develop and implement creative and proactive solutions to complex problems and disputes;

Coach, influence and build trust amongst senior management levels;


Effectively project plan, prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;

Work collaboratively across multiple business functions within Plains;

Demonstrated ability to compile and analyze data from MS Excel and  HRIS;


Demonstrated strategic thinking skills and attention to detail;

Demonstrates solid judgment and experience assessing risk relative to the business;

Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable law, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies;


Perform effectively in a fast-paced culture;

Ability to interpret the needs of stakeholders and business leaders; and

Be a part of a strong ‘team first’ environment


The successful candidate will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:
CPHR designation

Workday HRIS experience
