They are looking in the $40-$45 per hour range for this position.

TalentSphere Staffing has partnered with an industry leader in the Commercial HVAC and Industrial Controls Systems Space in Eastern Canada.

Our client is looking to hire an HVAC and Controls Service Technician to cover the Greater Halifax area. The position will be on a full-time permanent basis.

Position Summary
The HVAC and Controls Service Technician is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and commissioning HVAC mechanical and controls systems. This role ensures customer satisfaction through timely, proactive service and technical expertise, while supporting business growth by identifying opportunities and building strong client relationships. All work is to be completed in accordance with established safety standards and service contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Service & Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance and service on HVAC mechanical and control systems in compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair issues involving refrigeration, ventilation, electrical, electronic, and digital control systems.
  • Provide proactive recommendations for system improvements and future repairs to optimize performance.
  • Identify retrofit opportunities for mechanical and controls systems to support business development.
  • Complete and submit work order documentation accurately and on time.
  • Independently schedule service tasks to ensure timely completion.

Retrofit & New Installations

  • Follow all safety protocols during retrofits, installations, and commissioning activities.
  • Install and retrofit HVAC mechanical systems and components.
  • Perform start-ups, installations, and commissioning of HVAC mechanical and control systems to enhance technical proficiency.
  • Review and scope technical details for new projects and retrofits, providing accurate estimates and acting as a technical subject matter expert.

Systems Diagnostics & Applications

  • Prioritize safety while diagnosing, starting up, and commissioning systems.
  • Apply a strong understanding of complete HVAC system functionality to troubleshoot issues, commission systems, and recommend performance improvements.

Customer Service

  • Deliver high-quality customer service while building strong client relationships through proactive communication and professional recommendations.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and team members regarding work performed and system status.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Review work orders from the Service Coordinator and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Close work orders upon completion with accurate, detailed documentation to support timely billing and administrative processing.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, with 1–3 years of experience in a service-focused role within a related industry.
  • Gas Fitter 1 Technician license or Oil Burner certification is an asset, especially for candidates actively working toward completion.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC and controls systems, including energy management systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve system issues.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build strong client relationships and contribute to new business opportunities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other on-site trades; multilingual ability is an asset.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple work orders.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and support entry-level technicians.
