Laboratory Assistant Your Opportunity: The successful candidatewill provide support to the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory. Primary duties will be at the RAH, but the successful applicantmaybe required to work at different sites within the Edmonton zone. Duties include but are not limited to: receiving, accessioning, handling of specimens, receipt and delivery of slides, preparing samples for processing, assisting staff who perform the gross dissection of surgical and biopsy specimens and participating in the various quality control processes within the work area. Also, performing equipment maintenance, packing, and shipping specimens, slides and blocks, for internal and external or off-site testing, are duties as well.
As you will work within a team environment of MLA’s MLTs, PAs, pathologists, residents and other learners, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. The successful candidatemust represent Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. The shifts in the department have various morning start times. The candidatemust have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions, or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate and concise manner. The candidatemust be adaptable and represent Zonal Laboratory Services in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with LIS computer systems including Connect Care applications is an asset.
