Journeyman Electrician

Job Description

Reporting to the Substation Construction Foreman, the role of Construction Electrician is to perform site construction activities individually or with small, dedicated workgroups. In this role the Journeymen Electrician is expected to perform various activities within a substation while ensuring project construction is executed effectively and safely. The Journeymen is also responsible to identify and potential changes or field issues as they arise and bring to the Foreman's attention. The Journeymen will work with the Foreman to identify timelines for work activities as well as notify when the work fronts have been completed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

The purpose of the job can be broken down into different responsibilities and activities. Each responsibility is accomplished through the performance of several activities. The job description only requires the main activities for each responsibility.

  • Comply and follow Valard's Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Informing the Supervision team of the requirements for Equipment and materials required for the work fronts.
  • Work with New hire employees to ensure they t understand and adhere to Valard's safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the dedicated work group complies with Valard's project procedures as well as safety program requirements, construction quality practices.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere within the group.
  • Address Crew any issues/Conflicts with Site Foreman as they arise.
  • Work with on-site Safety Advisor to address any safety concerns brought forth by crews and or Client.
  • Manage Material deliveries and inventorying of Materials as per the assigned work fronts, identifying any potential risks and bringing to Site Supervisors and Foreman's attention.
  • Ensure that the crew is supporting the Valard Quality Management team's requirements as instructed by the Foreman and Site Supervisor.
  • Ensure that Valard's equipment and tools are being used in safe and professional manner. The tools are accounted for daily. Any defective tools and equipment are tagged out of service and brought to the foremen's attention.
  • Work with Site Supervisor and Foreman to understand the full scope of the project. This will allow Journeymen to identify changes in scope and address with the Foreman immediately.
  • Must be able to effectively manage small work groups.
  • Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the construction industry required.
  • Certified in PSE/Electrician/Lineman designation required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Experience in medium to high-voltage substation construction would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrate the ability to Manage small sized work groups safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, and understanding quality control a requirement to be eligible for the position
  • Position is Field based, must be able to accommodate multiple shift requirements based on Project Schedule as per contract.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and comprehend blueprints.
  • Have an understanding of the SCADA systems.
  • Comprehends pertinent basic EB & G Principles.
  • Comprehends safety policies and safe work procedures.
  • Ability to explain GOI – identifies limits of approach. Comprehends lock out tag out.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of tools & maintain and inspects tools correctly.
  • Performs substation steel erection, cable tray building, and cable trench, bus, HV equipment and steel structure installation proficiently.
  • Pull glands and terminates cable proficiently.
  • Identify quality deficiencies and complete documentation correctly.
  • Perform daily tailboard proficiently.
  • Identify hazards and preventative and mitigative controls.
  • Contributes to review of SWP's and SOP's.
