We are excited to partner with our west central client in their search for an experienced Legal Assistant to join their firm.


Working within a team environment in a mid-sized firm, you will be joining a group of supportive professionals who offer a full spectrum of law services, including collaborative law, mediation, arbitration, and litigation, as well as family planning, wills and estate planning, and adoption services.


The Opportunity

The Senior Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive support to Partners and Associates, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient paralegal services. This role requires expertise in legal processes, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment.



Key Responsibilities


1. Legal Case and Document Management

  • Manage all aspects of case and matter files, including calendar oversight and documentation.
  • Collaborate with lawyers on projects and electronic discovery files.
  • Handle document management in electronic databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Draft and edit various legal documents, including correspondence and court filings.
  • Maintain detailed records and track case statuses, including review of transcripts and undertakings.


2. Client and Stakeholder Interaction


  • Serve as a liaison with external entities such as courts, government agencies, vendors, and other law firms.
  • Communicate with clients to provide updates and gather necessary documentation.
  • Collect and analyze client materials to determine privilege and relevance.


3. Administrative and Mentorship Duties

  • Maintain a diary system for legal professionals, ensuring deadlines and key dates are met.
  • Mentor junior legal assistants, offering guidance and support.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, including office and file management.
  • Support the department’s billing practices and meet targets.


Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:


  • Completion of a recognized Paralegal program or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a legal support role.
  • Experience in Family Law or Conveyancing (wills/power of attorney/mortgages) an asset.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, Adobe skills and experience with Leap Legal Software or similar program (pclaw, etc.)
  • Proven ability to adapt to diverse working styles and priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building, and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
