The Team:

This team’s mission is to support the stream-aligned Fintech teams through technical investment in our payments and financial platforms, to reduce operational overhead and ensure stability, reliability, and accuracy of our systems. The team also contributes to ensuring regulatory compliance on handling financial data.



The role:

As a leader in Fintech, you’ll manage the Risk Engineering and Payment Systems teams. Risk Engineering builds tooling to support the internal risk teams, to help reduce the chance of fraud and losses. The Payment Systems team builds the foundation for payments and our other Fintech offerings. Your teams work primarily in the back-end, building a stable and reliable platform. You’ll work alongside peers from Technical Product Management and the rest of the Engineering Leadership team to ensure the tools we make help home and field service companies be financially successful!

Reporting to a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, the Manager, Software Engineering will work with members of your teams to support and develop their skills and career, as we work together to empower small businesses. In addition, you will be heavily involved in the technical direction of our platform, building it out to be reliable and performant as the company grows.



The Manager, Software Engineering will:

  • Live and breathe performance facilitation. You want to work with your team(s) to help them master their individual crafts, while also collaborating to build extraordinary experiences and systems.
  • Be committed to the success of your people. You will help them set goals, have regular 1-on-1s, and provide constructive feedback and coaching to ensure your team’s success.
  • Develop a world-class team alongside a world-class organization. You’ll participate in recruiting events and the hiring process while also working to level up your internal team while implementing new processes, all to develop a world-class Fintech department.
  • Remove roadblocks and build guardrails. You’ll work with the other leaders to create and maintain an environment where people can rapidly produce top-quality work that ultimately helps our customers be successful.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders across the business. Whether it’s our Management teams within Product, or our Business Technology teams, you’re working closely with other Jobberinos to find the best solutions in Jobber for small businesses.

To be successful, you should have:

  • A track record of success in being an established software engineer, as well as time spent in a leadership position, guiding a team in the delivery of quality software.
  • Strong full-stack technical background, including design and architectural experience.
  • The ability to be agile in an agile environment. You’ll need to be able to lead and teach your team to adapt to change, while also thinking critically and creatively to find answers to problems.
  • Effective written and oral communication. Being transparent with your team and establishing an open dialogue will be a key to success in supporting your coaching conversations and discussions.
  • Collaboration down to an art. You’ll work with your direct reports or other teams to understand what they want to accomplish and develop a plan to achieve it.
  • To be a leader and mentor. You’ll bring your shared experience into conversations to influence and provide constructive feedback to direct reports throughout the journey to ensure goals are being met and exceeded.

Highly desired, but not a dealbreaker:


  • Previous experience with our development stack: Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, TypeScript, GraphQL
  • Previous experience with payments or other fintech technologies
  • Previous experience working on internal-facing platform teams

Compensation:
At Jobber, we also believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $169,200, a midpoint of $199,100, and a maximum salary of $228,900, designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling. Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind.
