Job Description

Position Summary: The Motorhand is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment specifically related to the engines that power the drilling rig. Motorhands are integral members of the rig team. This position is accountable to ensure all equipment is clean and operating properly, assist the Derrickhand and Driller on the drill floor, and ensure completion of log sheets and maintenance cards. Safety is the first priority for all drilling rig personnel.

Position is full-time seasonal position. Seasonal work is based on operational requirements, project schedules, weather and environmental conditions and other factors outside our control.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Regularly maintain drilling rig engines, transmissions, heating systems, diesel electric generators and motors, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment
  • Monitor inventories for fuel, oil filters, lube oils, greases and other service items
  • Maintain equipment logs and preventative maintenance records as required
  • Operate and maintain the engines that run the draw works, turn rotary table and circulate drilling fluid
  • Ensure usage of proper safety equipment
  • Ability to follow directions, comply with company guidelines and work in a safe manner

Certifications and License

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess valid H2S Alive Certification, First Aid CPR, and CSO
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the site

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to complete a drug and alcohol test and obtain a “negative” result. (This test will be arranged by Horizon)
  • Must be able to complete and successfully pass a physical demands analysis test. (This test will be arranged by Horizon)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Extreme weather conditions such as rain, heat/cold, and exposure to loud noises
  • Highly repetitious, fast paced work environment
