The Airport Capacity Team is an integral part of the success to the overall airport ecosystem, balancing demand against capacity through the lens of service delivery to our customers and efficient utilization of our assets. Position overview We have two permanent, full-time opportunities for Operational Planners .

Reporting to the Manager, Airport Capacity, the successful candidate manages in season tactical operational planning and asset allocation strategies for the most efficient and optimal use of our core infrastructure – Runways, Aircraft Stands, Terminal and Baggage Processors. This is done by leveraging demand and capacity data analytics coupled with in depth knowledge of airport infrastructure and our operational and performance objectives and those of our key stakeholders and partners. Key responsibilities include: Calculate and maintain inventory of available capacity throughout the airport based on the established concept of operations.

This includes consideration of aircraft, passenger, baggage, cargo, vehicle infrastructure and flows including interdependencies as a fully connected airport system. Identify demand-based trigger points for each operational process area (either increase or decrease) to adjust operating posture (allocation of assets, hours of operations, staffing levels) as necessary to ensure target operational KPIs relative to operational performance will be met. Optimize and publish the approved allocation of aircraft stands/gates, check-in counters, baggage make-up piers as part of the in season tactical operational planning cycle.

Establish optimal hours of operation and staffing levels to minimize cost while still maintaining set service levels for our internal contractors and our agency partners. Complete data and business insight driven analysis to support business and change case documentation. Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders on all aspects of the projects and desired outcomes.

This includes costs/benefits, specific actions and changes required, anticipated impacts and proposed actions. Key qualifications include: At least three years of relevant experience working in a major international airport or equally complex operational or logistical organization, supplemented by a two to three year technical or community college certificate or diploma in Business or a related aviation field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in airport planning, operational research in an operational environment plus excellent knowledge of capacity calculations and performance metrics related to airport systems, processes, and procedures.

Analytical experience in complex work environment where cause and effect implications require careful assessment; advanced data analytics – strong analytical abilities with the ability to quickly interpret and present complex data from interdependent sources. Proficient in data presentation with demonstrated experience interpreting and visualizing complex data. Experience working with various levels of interdisciplinary staff and management – both internal and externally, navigating competing interests to make recommendations for efficient capacity utilization without compromising business goals.

Excellent communication skills as well as proven relationship building and negotiation experience to influence win-win outcomes. This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants.
