Your future role on our team

As an Electrical Engineer in the BBA Vancouver office, you will lead and contribute to the execution of projects in conceptual, design, construction, commissioning and operational phases for our clients in the Energy, Industrial and Mining sectors.

  1. Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, engineers, designers and drafters in the preparation of deliverables to BBA and client standards;
  2. Prepare, review and approve engineering design packages including reports, studies, estimates, budgets, schedules, drawings, calculations, specifications, quotations, proposals, presentations;
  3. Develop and implement work methods;
  4. Perform site inspections, testing and commissioning at client sites, locally and abroad;
  5. Oversee and prepare proposals including scoping, cost estimate and schedule;
  6. Manage and lead single and multidisciplinary project work packages including preparing budget and schedule, and tracking deliverable progress;
  7. Train, coach, mentor and supervise intermediate and junior Engineers, Technicians and drafters;
  8. Maintain and grow business relationships and the quality of BBA’s professional services.

In addition to the technical responsibilities of this position, we are looking for individuals who have experience and interest in project leadership responsibilities such as project discipline leads, project engineers and project managers. At BBA, we expect project leaders to take on technical tasks in projects as well as the project management tasks to ensure our project leaders understand the details of the work being carried out.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  1. Electrical Engineering Degree, or similar
  2. 20+ years of relevant project experience;
  3. Registered with EGBC as a P.Eng or eligible to register with EGBC as a P.Eng. within the next year;
  4. A valid class 5 BC driver’s license;
  5. Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written);
  6. Ability to travel on short notice to customer sites and other BBA offices;
  7. Experience preparing, reviewing and approving technical documents such as studies, reports, specifications, calculations, plans, and instructions;
  8. Experience preparing and reviewing design deliverables such as single line diagrams, layouts, elevations, material lists, cable and termination schedules, etc;
  9. Experience preparing and reviewing project estimates;
  10. Familiarity with IEEE Color Books, CEC and NEC.

The following experience will be valued, but is not necessary:


  1. Practical knowledge of HV & MV substations including site layouts, reactive equipment, switching equipment, grounding, shielding, power distribution and lighting;
  2. Knowledge of electrical equipment specifications, testing and commissioning;
  3. Experience with ETAP, CDEGS, PSSE, SKM Power Tools or other software packages;
  4. Experience with projects in the mining, or industrial sectors;
  5. Experience in troubleshooting, commissioning and system installation;
  6. Experience leading and managing projects, including design reviews, costs, schedules;
  7. Extensive knowledge of electrical installation safety;
  8. In-depth knowledge of MV and HV equipment and apparatus.

An overview of BBA’s total reward

  1. Annual base salary, based on 37.5 hours weekly, between $146,000 to $200,000;

BBA considers many factors to determine the annual base salary such as, but not limited to: Location of the position, education, relevant and demonstrated work experience, technical assessment, qualifications, certifications, and other relevant competencies.
