Project Manager – ICI Construction - Burlington, Ontario

A fast-growing construction management and Design-Build firm specializing in environmentally controlled ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) facilities is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to join its team in Burlington, Ontario. The company delivers high-performance facilities for clients across multiple sectors, with a focus on collaboration, quality, and long-term relationships.

Key Purpose

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for leading all aspects of project execution — from planning and budgeting through construction and closeout. This role involves active oversight of multiple projects, managing project teams, maintaining strong communication with stakeholders, and ensuring all work meets technical, budgetary, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in Design-Build delivery from project handover to final turnover, including involvement in design coordination, quality control, and safety planning.
  • Manage project budgets and track performance against financial goals across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Tender and negotiate subcontracts to achieve the best value considering cost, quality, and schedule.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks within the terms of both Prime and Subcontracts.
  • Lead project scheduling and progress tracking; ensure clear communication of next steps to all team members.
  • Ensure project schedules are regularly updated and aligned with baseline targets.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Conduct periodic job site inspections to ensure safety, quality, and cleanliness.
  • Provide direction to Site Superintendents and ensure they are empowered to manage site operations effectively.
  • Oversee procurement, contract administration, bid evaluations, and trade buyouts.
  • Manage post-construction responsibilities, including warranty-related client support.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of billing documentation to the finance team.
  • Maintain control over construction documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and inspection logs.
  • Resolve disputes swiftly and professionally, with support from senior leadership when needed.
  • Ensure that vendor relationships remain productive and cooperative.
  • Complete biweekly progress reports and monthly budget forecasts across all projects.

Key Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid understanding of building science and ICI construction practices.
  • High attention to accuracy, detail, and precision in all aspects of work.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proficient at interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of project accounting and cost control.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organized with strong time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Confident leader able to motivate teams and drive project performance.
  • Skilled negotiator with a professional and ethical approach.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and relationship-building capabilities.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Building Science, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Engineering degree with a specialization in Construction Project Management is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a project management role within the construction industry.
  • PMP designation is considered an asset.
