As Island Health’s charitable partner, we raise donations for medical equipment, special projects, education, and research.

VHF donors fund an incredible 40% of the equipment in Victoria General and Royal Jubilee hospitals. In 2022/23, over $12.9 million was raised to support our hospitals, including gifts from over 5,200 donors. Since 1989, the Victoria Hospitals Foundation has raised more than $193 million to benefit our hospitals.

Our community generously funded thousands of pieces of urgently needed medical equipment and special projects to help these hospitals provide care to all 860,000 residents of Vancouver Island. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Recognition Associate to join our team This new and full-time permanent role will report to the Manager, Philanthropy. The Recognition Associate will lead and project manage stewardship and recognition initiatives that help contribute to the Foundation’s annual revenue and retention goals.

The Recognition Associate will project manage both the impact report and stewardship letter process to ensure all deadlines are met and may support the process by writing and designing customized stewardship pieces. This position maintains an equipment library and is responsible for writing equipment descriptions, sourcing statistics and quotes and taking photos. The Recognition Associate will project manage fulfilling gift agreements, support naming recognition, thank you call processes and donor wall and our Annual Report’s Timeline of Philanthropy updates.

This position will also maintain a pipeline of up to 50 donors. Key Responsibilities: Oversees the impact report and stewardship letter processes, ensuring all gifts eligible for an impact report and/or stewardship letter are captured and the pieces are created in a timely way. Works with the Senior Philanthropy Coordinator to lead recognition activities such as tours and events that demonstrate impact for a targeted group of donors.

Maintains a pipeline of up to 50 donors, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these donors in a timely way. Liaises with Island Health Directors and Managers to write and gain approval on accurate, compelling, and donor-centric equipment and program descriptions. Liaises with Island Health staff and care team members to secure quotes and photos that demonstrate impact of donors’ philanthropy.

Creates and oversee a library of Island Health and equipment specific statistics, photos and quotes. Writes stewardship letters, impact reports, speaking notes and other content specific to stewardship and recognition. Uses Canva and InDesign to design impact reports as needed.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field and/or two to five years of professional experience in a fundraising role or equivalent experience. Previous responsibility for, and demonstrated success in, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts. The individual must have demonstrated knowledge of various methods of giving and be able to communicate the advantages of each to donors.

Proficient with the Microsoft suite of programs, Canva or Adobe and specific knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, or a comparable relational database. Working knowledge of gift processing, acknowledgment, and tracking processes is key, along with knowledge of CRA regulations as they relate to charitable giving. A valid driver’s license is required and access to a personal vehicle is an asset.

Superior oral and written communication skills for a wide variety of audiences. Must be goal-oriented, self-motivated, reliable, accountable and detail-oriented with sound judgment and outstanding relationship management skills. Total Compensation Package: The base salary hiring range for this position is $61,320 – $72,000.

The base salary range for this position is $61,320 – $82,960. This salary is based on a 37.5 hour workweek. The total compensation package also includes a comprehensive extended benefit package starting immediately, and participation in a defined benefit pension program after 3 months.

The time off program includes 4 weeks of vacation per year, paid sick time and other time off to support personal wellbeing.
