Position Summary

As a Recovery Technician, you are responsible for the timely, safe, efficient and customer friendly delivery of waste collection and recycling services to our customers. Because you’re at the front line of our business, you help establish and influence the public impression of GFL and ensure it remains an accurate reflection of who we are and what we stand for as a company.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Efficient Waste Collection: Operate a cube van to collect waste from various customers, ensuring timely and dependable service.

Vehicle Care: Employ proper techniques to reduce driver-induced mechanical failures and promptly report any vehicle issues to the mechanic and supervisor.

Documentation: Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip safety route inspections, Bills of Lading (BOL), Manifest documents, and other requested documentation to maintain compliance.

Waste Handling: Identify, segregate, and package waste in adherence to all Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) guidelines.

Customer Satisfaction: Prioritize customer needs and provide service in line with our established policies.

Safe Route Completion: Successfully complete your assigned daily route in a secure and efficient manner as directed by the service coordinator.

Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance when interacting with customers or the general public, whether on the route or in uniform.

Safety First: Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures during offloading at Waste Facilities.

Physical Requirements: Be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., maneuvering drums, pails, and boxes.

Adaptability: Be ready to take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Site Manager or their designate.


Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract

Valid Class 3 Driver’s License or higher with air brakes and a clean driver’s abstract is preferred.

A Degree or Diploma in Environmental or Chemical Sciences/Engineering; or any related education would be an asset.

Experience working in the waste, recycling, or environmental services industry is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Positive attitude and a strong sense of pride in your work.

Ability to provide exceptional customer service to GFL clients and customers.

Ability to lift on a repetitive basis and lift up to 50lbs.

Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and effectively collaborate in a team environment.

Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends to support the team.
