You will be responsible for managing the organization’s research and development policies and controlling new product development processes. You will also establish R&D and performance metrics and standards, procedures, and verification/validation controls in order to meet business goals and requirements, as well as identify and implement process improvements. This position reports to the Director of National Operations.</p><h3>Day to Day</h3><ul><li>Perform standard bake test and analysis for various end use applications in determining and developing the most optimized and cost-effective recipes for wheat grist, flour ingredients and flour blending, as well as flour streams set-up per product at each mill.</li><li>Collaborate and work with Quality Assurance group in the development of flour specifications.</li><li>Analyze quality data and trending, and advise any adjustments in the formulations as required to achieve consistent quality of flour across all sites.</li><li>Perform comparative testing, analysis, and evaluation of various flour products and end use applications.</li><li>Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of R&D projects, ensuring that expected completion date and overall objectives are achieved.</li><li>Manage new product development from conceptualization, testing/trials, and execution in collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Quality Assurance.</li><li>Work with Operations and Quality Assurance in developing process methodology and procedures for new product development and formulations.</li><li>Establish standard operating procedures (SOP) in conducting Research and Development activities and processes.</li><li>Provide technical support to Sales and Operations in handling flour functionality–related customer complaints and troubleshooting.</li><li>Perform troubleshooting, in-house or at customer’s location as required, and provide recommendations and resolutions.</li><li>Manage all R&D data gatherings and documentation, maintaining/updating records and ensuring compliance with relevant company policies and regulations.</li><li>Provide technical training and education to QA and Milling personnel as well as customers as required.</li><li>Perform any and all related duties as required.</li></ul><h3>Required Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.</li><li>Minimum 8 years of direct work experience in QA and R&D in flour milling environment with at least 4 years in supervisory or managerial role.</li><li>Minimum of 5 years working experience conducting and performing grain and flour analytical testing and end-use/bake testing for various applications (breads, cookies, noodles, pasta, etc.).</li><li>In-depth knowledge of different wheat classes and flour characteristics and properties.</li><li>Intensive training or certifications in wheat/flour chemistry and baking science and technology.</li><li>Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.</li><li>Project management skills and experience.</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft applications.</li></ul><h3>Work and grow with a family-owned company</h3><p>Join our team with purpose and history.
