Highlights of the Job

We are hiring one full-time, temporary (up to 12 months) Senior Advisor, Employee Communications working out of Edmonton, AB.


EPCOR’s award-winning Communications & Public Engagement team is evolving. As we take big steps to build our brand and push into new spaces, we are looking for great people to help us drive EPCOR’s vision through best-in-class communications, marketing, and leadership.

We are looking for an experienced communicator to join our Corporate Employee Communications team; someone who champions our employees and their work, and is passionate about their role in shaping corporate culture. Due to the nature of this role, including a cover letter with your application is mandatory.

What You’d Be Responsible For

  • Delivering strategic employee communications planning, execution, and support for company-wide initiatives, and corporate and business unit clients.
  • Leveraging and optimizing communication channels to engage employees and enhance corporate culture. This involves maintaining high standards for traditional and digital internal communications channels, including an employee intranet site, e-mail, and other emerging tools/channels.
  • Planning and delivering both exceptional communications that reach internal audience segments, and on-brand content for internal and external distribution.
  • Supporting major employee events, ensuring alignment with EPCOR’s employee experience and corporate priorities.
  • Participating in EPCOR’s Communications and Public Engagement On-Call team rotation, reviewing, assessing, and responding to emerging requests and issues to maintain our reputation as a caring, committed utility provider.

What’s Required to Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of progressively responsible roles in internal and external communications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Google Analytics, information architecture required.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering effective, measurable communications strategies and plans, drawing on a range of channels.
  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills with the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills in print and digital mediums; attention to detail.
  • Big picture thinker who links business goals, priorities, and company positions to their work.
  • Responds to change with an open attitude and focuses on continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Excels at leveraging social and digital media to reach target audiences.
  • Actively uses social media and stays current with emerging digital platforms and trends.

Wage: Starting at $50.95 per hour (Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and are subject to change based on ratification of the new collective agreement).

Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly.

  • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
