Senior Analyst, Performance & Planning

Worker Type: Employee Group: Downstream Portfolio Management & Business Integration Department Job Post End Date: 09/13/2024 About this opportunity: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Downstream Capital Management, the Sr. Analyst, Performance and Planning will play a meaningful role in supporting the strategic and operational activities in support of the Downstream Capital Management and Long-Range Planning process. This role focuses on maintaining and improving a credible, transparent, and disciplined project list across downstream for portfolio-level prioritization and strategic alignment.

In collaboration with asset, project, commercial, and corporate partners, this role strives to empower the Downstream capital management team to improve value and deliver world-class capital efficiency across annual and long-range planning horizons. What you’ll do: Portfolio Evaluation: Coordinate (and selectively perform) economic and risk-based assessments of downstream portfolio opportunities / projects and perform analysis in collaboration with decision analysis engineers, site business leads, projects planning & delivery teams, Downstream Technical Services, and North American Manufacturing Performance Improvement Teams. Portfolio Data Management: Automate data query and cleansing to ensure up-to-date and organized portfolio model based on monthly forecast data to support short to mid-term business planning and improve value creation through long-range business plan processes.

Support the Long-Range planning process : integration and quality control of assets’ submissions into LRP process. Data query across systems (Planning Space, SAP, Power BI, etc.), synopsis of narratives and report preparation for leadership reviews. Portfolio Benchmarking: Bridge facility investment portfolio with Solomon metrics, reliability performance, and risk management performance.

Capital Execution Insight: Improve portfolio capital execution predictability based on key project control critical metrics to foresee and mitigate risks of capital underruns/overruns. Economic Modeling: Conduct rigorous, impartial, and standardized economic evaluations in collaboration with the commercial business office. Improve decision quality through framing and investment lookback.

Strategy Delivery: Perform strategic fit analysis across the Downstream capital portfolio to ensure alignment with company strategy and input into Downstream strategy and business plans. Strategic Analysis: Bridge corporate strategy to downstream, articulate asset-level strategy, and prepare strategy delivery plans. Conduct scenario and probabilistic analysis to achieve optimized portfolio performance based on constraints.

Who you are: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field. CPA, CFA or P.Eng. designation and experience in investment portfolio decision quality would be considered an asset. Minimum 8 years of experience in a relevant field, preferably in the refining or downstream industry.

Highly organized with strong analytical skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel, DAX, and VBA skills. Experience with relational data analytics, data modeling, and statistical techniques/methods.

Proficiency in economic modeling techniques and methodologies. Solid understanding of Monte Carlo/statistical simulation is considered an asset. Effective communication skills, capable of communicating complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and deadlines.
