We offer training, opportunities for advancement, and a competitive compensation and benefits program. The Senior Controller is a key position that reports to General Manager and the Corporate CFO. You support the entire accounting function and financial reporting for the dealership and related businesses in our area.

This position will work closely with management and other departments to help ensure harmonious and productive operations, which will help maximize the success of the businesses. The successful candidate must be able to maintain excellent business relations with customers, both internally and externally. You will also be expected to help develop and motivate accounting associates to ensure that performance metrics are being met or exceeded.

RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the administration and accounting staff of the local businesses (currently two dealerships and two related businesses). Supervises all accounting and dealership administrations staff; coaches, recruits, and trains as necessary. Prepares a monthly financial statement according to dealership guidelines and within each manufacturer’s format and time frame.

Ensures that all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection and co-op advertising are current and accurate. Interprets the financial statement and the daily operating control (DOC) regularly and informs dealer of developing trends. Maintain accounting records and documentation of sales and purchases of vehicles.

Perform tasks to help ensure financial functions are reconciled monthly such as cash, accounts receivables, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payables, manufacturer statements, vehicle deal commissioning, and intercompany accounts. Maintains an effective cash management system that forecasts cash funds and makes recommendations for the profitable use of excess cash. Reviews the general ledger and scheduled accounts.

Notes any unusual entries and investigates. Reviews the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts and factory payable. Stays abreast of tax code revisions and advises dealer regarding any operational adjustments needed to accommodate revisions.

Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining required forms, and taxes, etc. Manages the dealership computer system to maximize utilization. Oversees Accounts Receivable function and maintains loss reserves for trade receivables.

Works with General Manager to improve revenue or reduce expenses in order to meet or exceed budget and grow the business. Prepares and processes all insurance claims. Coordinates annual review with external accounting firm and physical inventory audits with lender.

Approve vacation of accounting staff and ensure that all work is covered when they are away. Overall responsibility for the onboarding of new employees; ensuring hiring manager has provided new hire with new hire package (new hire form, tax forms, employee handbook, benefits guide, Wolfe Bucks etc.) Other tasks as assigned. EXPERIENCE A minimum of five years of related automotive dealership accounting experience is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS Accounting Degree is preferred. CPA or CPA Candidate preferred. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external resources.

Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and within a team.

Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively assess alternatives and make supported recommendations. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize, problem-solve, and manage high volumes of work within specific deadlines. Must be tactful, discrete, and respectful of confidential information.

Must conduct self with peers and customers in a courteous and professional manner.
