An Edmonton client is seeking a Senior Land Development Engineer to join their team. Senior Land Development Engineer Highlights: Assess the initial validity of project planning. Conduct preliminary engineering work on an hourly basis for new projects.
Prepare design fees based on a percentage of construction costs, typically around 9%, varying by project complexity. Construction Budgets: Manage and estimate construction budgets for projects ranging from $1M to $50M. Prepare cost estimates at key design milestones to support client financing and assess project viability.
Project Timelines: Preferably complete designs in the year preceding construction. Manage timelines according to client investment willingness, market conditions, and regulatory/municipal approval processes. Oversee significant projects, including current multi-year developments like a $50M site.
Client Relationship Management: Source new work to maintain and grow the engineering team’s workload. Develop and nurture trust relationships with clients to ensure clear communication and meet expectations. Ensure proposals accurately align with project specifics, even when fees are percentage-based.
Planning and Design Deliverables: Develop and present design briefs that outline high-level project requirements and cost estimates during the planning phase. Oversee the creation of design deliverables, including detailed design drawings and multiple submission rounds for regulatory approvals. Manage additional submissions required by authorities such as Alberta Environment, Alberta Transportation, and municipal bodies for erosion and sediment control plans.
Team Structure and Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff, including 5-7 junior co-op students, fostering their professional growth. Support the co-op program to bring in additional resources, with the potential to offer permanent staff positions to successful candidates. Grow the engineering group and project backlog to ensure a consistent workload for the team.
Technical Expertise: Apply expertise in stormwater management and report writing, including modeling with PCSWWM, XPSTORM, or SWMHYMO. Design and monitor sediment and erosion control measures, ensuring compliance with CPESC ACC standards. Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D software to develop and refine engineering designs.
Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, team members, and regulatory bodies. Act as a collaborative team player, working closely with other departments to achieve project goals. Qualifications: 5 years of experience in land development engineering.
Extensive experience with stormwater management, report writing, and sediment & erosion control design and construction monitoring. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. Professional designation as a P.Eng or P.L. (Eng.).
