Sproule is seeking an energetic, entrepreneurial, initiative-taking and technically proficient Senior Development Engineer to join the Sproule Asset Management team to optimize the development and performance of our clients’ managed oil and gas assets. This is a firsthand role supporting multi-disciplinary project teams including production operations, geoscience, finance/accounting, land, joint venture, marketing, and field operations personnel. The position will assist in identifying and evaluating growth opportunities on developed and undeveloped land and supporting the team’s evaluation in capturing resource targets via development projects, land sales, farm-ins and asset or corporate level acquisitions. In addition, this position is accountable for managing the development and stewardship to the corporate budget and assist in the long-range planning for the Client’s base.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Engineering, the Senior Development Engineer responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Implementing strategic initiatives on behalf of Sproule’s clients.
- Identifying and developing upside opportunities and reservoir depletion strategies.
- Focusing on increasing recovery factors and achieving production targets through infill drilling, water flood surveillance and optimization and improved technology application.
- Recommending and implementing area development plans.
- Working closely with production engineers, field personnel and other disciplines to optimize existing production, to plan and recommend operational activities and to evaluate project related economics.
- Maintaining accurate company reserve bookings for assigned areas and providing development plans and technical justification to independent reserve evaluators including lease operating expense analysis and experience with reserves management software.
- Identifying infrastructure debottlenecking opportunities and working closely with the facility engineering department to optimize volume throughput in accordance with the field development plan.
- Providing engineering support to Business Development for evaluating A&D opportunities (as requested) including risk assessment and economic evaluations.
- Evaluating client existing mineral land position for development opportunities and providing recommendations on potential recompletion and optimization candidates.
- Monitoring industry activity outside of the existing land base and identifying opportunities for consolidation, farm-ins, land acquisition, drilling and the application of modern technologies.
- Preparing and delivering business decisions and presentations to internal and external clients’ executive and management regarding development opportunities.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
- Detailed understanding of geologic concepts in relation to Development & Reservoir Engineering.
- Good working knowledge of Facilities and Production Engineering concepts.
- Additional time spent in cross-disciplinary roles would be a strong asset.
- Experience with systems such as AccuMap (or similar), Production Manager (or similar), Wellman (or similar) and ValNav software.
- Travel to the field may be required on occasion.
