Position Overview:

As a Senior Energy Modeler, you will work on leading projects with a specific focus on decarbonization and energy transition, working closely with the Chief Innovation Officer and Lead Engineers. You will conduct parametric analysis simulations on various engineering architectures to identify the most energy-efficient and low-GHG solutions. You will also help develop new service offerings and leadership initiatives, with the option to participate in external business development. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and utilizing a suite of energy-economy simulation tools to model cutting-edge HVAC system architectures for both public and private sectors, helping to guide the shift toward a lower carbon economy.
  • Developing performance simulations to support the design of high-performance buildings, deep energy retrofits, and energy audits of existing buildings.
  • Analyzing climate and energy policies affecting Canada’s energy infrastructure and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Producing graphical representations of complex simulation data to enhance client-facing deliverables.
  • Supporting the modeling team’s development strategy by identifying enhancements to ensure that ThermaStor Solutions’ tools remain aligned with market needs.
  • Drafting technical papers and presenting key insights to Canadian policymakers and senior executives, interpreting and communicating model data.
  • Making a meaningful impact on one of the greatest challenges of our time—energy transition.


Qualifications:

You are a motivated individual with:

  • A strong ambition to improve building design and performance.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in economics, applied science/engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. A graduate degree in energy system modeling, economics, resource management, or related fields is an asset.
  • At least 8 years of experience delivering building performance analysis to support high-performance building design.
  • Advanced proficiency with building energy modeling software, particularly IES VE.
  • Experience with additional energy modeling software such as TRNSYS, HOT2000, RETScreen, EnergyPlus, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 3D, PolySun, and Homer is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, Toronto Green Standard, Vancouver Building By-Laws, BC Energy Step Code, and Zero Carbon Building Standard.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A deep understanding of and interest in Canada’s energy system, climate policies, emerging decarbonization technologies, and the economics of the energy sector.
