The Climate and Environment department is responsible for executing YVR’s Environmental Management plan, including reducing our carbon emissions, increasing waste diversion, conserving water and protecting the ecosystem on Sea Island. We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Senior Environmental Specialist. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for executing the Environmental Management Plan in alignment with YVR’s Strategic Plan and creating innovative new approaches to deliver on commitments and environmental targets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and implementing programs, policy and projects related to environmental impact assessment, contaminated sites management, environmental auditing, hazardous waste management and habitat protection and enhancement
  • Creatively developing and implementing programs, as well as, managing budgets, projects and consultants
  • Monitoring, evaluating, improving and communicating the organization’s environmental sustainability goals and results, through collaboration with airport colleagues and partners, with Musqueam under our Friendship & Sustainability Agreement, and with our geographic and industry communities

Key qualifications include:

  • University degree (master’s preferred) in Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering or a related field
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience working within a similar context at a senior level
  • Professional designation in an environmental field (such as RP.Bio, P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Ag or MCIP/RPP) 
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental legislation and general awareness of Indigenous protocols 
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget, manage consultants, and liaise with industry, government officials and the public

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position. 

Salary Range : $97,599 to $127,555 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
