Our client, a clinical-stage biotechnology company, develops radiopharmaceuticals to image and treat solid and hematologic malignancies. With a strong clinical pipeline and investor support, they are committed to developing novel therapies that extend patients’ lives.
Position Summary
Our client seeks an accomplished Senior/Executive Director of Research to lead their oncology-focused drug discovery programs. The role requires a strategic leader with scientific expertise and a track record of guiding cross-functional teams to achieve research milestones. Experience with radiopharmaceutical discovery and development is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Scientific Direction: Provide oversight on all aspects of discovery including target selection, compound design and optimization (including computational science approaches), radiochemistry, in vitro and in vivo biology, DMPK, and translational research.
- Strategic Leadership: Guide and implement the company’s research strategy and innovation roadmap to expand and strengthen clinical and preclinical radiopharmaceutical portfolio.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, clinical, regulatory, and business leadership to align scientific priorities with development goals.
- Innovation Pipeline: Identify new internal and external asset opportunities and maintain awareness of scientific and competitive advancements.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing scientific team with a focus on collaboration, rigor, and growth.
- Data & Reporting: Oversee data interpretation and communication of research progress to executive leadership and external partners.
- Operational Execution: Manage workflows, resources, and timelines across research programs, ensuring speed, quality, and compliance.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Chemistry, or related scientific field.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industrial experience in oncology drug discovery.
- Deep expertise in all drug discovery aspects, including medicinal chemistry/radiochemistry, computational sciences, in vitro and in vivo biology, early formulation development and analytical method development.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams from concept to clinical candidate selection.
- Experience with asset evaluation, project progression, and development pipelines.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and scientific communication skills.
- Proven ability to work across functions and influence strategic decisions.
