Job Description

Overview

The opportunity

We have a pivotal leadership opportunity for a senior HR position at Fairview—designed not only to align HR strategy with business goals, but also to create that strategy from the ground up. This includes developing the high-level policies and frameworks that will guide operational HR work going forward. Reporting directly to the President and CFO and managing a team of two, the Senior HR Leader will serve as a key advisor, balancing day-to-day operations like payroll, compliance, and employee relations with higher-level strategic initiatives such as workforce planning, organizational design, and leadership development.

If you are an HR professional seeking a meaningful challenge—where you’ll modernize legacy systems, influence leadership, and make a tangible impact in a stable, values-driven environment—this is your opportunity.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the leadership team, developing a new human resources strategy and establishing high-level policies that align with business goals.
  • Lead organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development efforts.
  • Drive change management initiatives while preserving Fairview’s legacy and values.
  • Create and sustain a high-performance culture that engages, develops, attracts and retains top talent.
  • Review and update compensation, benefits, and performance management frameworks.
  • Coach managers to strengthen leadership capabilities and guide employee engagement, retention, and growth initiatives.
  • Advance a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Ensure strong HR governance by maintaining compliance with all HR-related legal requirements and building the right people, processes, and systems to uphold accountability.
  • Oversee HR operations—including payroll, compensation, performance management, workforce planning and employee relations—ensuring consistent execution, compliance with legal requirements and alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

Skills and qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in HR, Business, or a related field; HR designation (e.g., CHRP or CHRL) is an asset.
  • Seven or more years of progressive HR experience across strategic and tactical domains
  • Solid experience in all human resources practices including compensation, workforce planning, employee relations, and policy development.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leadership while managing hands-on HR operations
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Naturally self-driven, takes initiative, has sound judgment and the ability to influence.
  • Confident, approachable, adaptive, and ready to have tough conversations—with professionalism and good humour.
  • Manufacturing or industrial distribution experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity working within a family business environment would be an asset.
  • Bilingual (English / French) is an asset, not required.

What we offer

The salary range for this position is CA$105,000 to CA$115,000, commensurate with skill and experience. This offer comes with a comprehensive benefits package and an RSP savings plan. This role provides the opportunity to transform the HR experience at Fairview and shape our people-centred strategy. You’ll be part of a workplace that blends long-standing stability and tradition with a commitment to innovation and modernization.
