Senior Manager – Data Engineering and Architecture

OnX is looking to engage a Senior Manager – Data Engineering and Architecture for a permanent opportunity in Calgary.

In this role, you will be leading a team of data engineers and will be responsible for setting the technical vision for the data engineering team, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business goals.

Responsibilities:

• Define the technical direction of the team and drive architecture/design/implementations to enhance an ever-expanding data platform, that supports business process needs for internal and external integration via APIs, data models, self-serve reporting solutions, and interactive querying
• Help with building a team of data managers, data engineers and architects including responsibility for their career growth, goal setting, and performance improvements
• Management of team progression, maturity, Agile delivery, and DevOps/CI-CD processes
• Solution analysis and design, balancing technical and business aspects
• High-level and low-level design of real-time and batch system interfaces and data enrichment pipelines in a cloud-native data ecosystem
• Promote and enforce design and development standards and best practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as data science, data platform and business partners to implement advanced analytics strategies by integrating data engineering with capabilities such as machine learning, AI, MLOps and DataOps, to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and overall business performance.
• Work with Microsoft cloud stack including Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Lake, Data Factory, Databricks, Azure functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, etc.

Requirements:

• Minimum seven years of experience in a data engineering role.
• Data analytics leadership experience including managing staff, providing regular status updates, and monitoring project economics.
• Experience in at least two of the following analytics tools: Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, ADLS, Azure Synapse, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft PowerBI, Teradata, Informatica, Oracle BI etc.
• Experience in data architecture activities such as evaluation, design, and implementation of data related technologies.
• Experience with ETL processes such as real-time & batch data processing, data pipelines, transformation, and modeling using traditional and distributed systems.
